The executor/administrator will need to either transfer the shares to the beneficiaries or liquidate the assets and then divide the sale proceeds.

Sale:

We prepare the necessary forms for your signature and then send all the required documentation to a stockbroker and arrange sale of the shares. Then the stockbroker returns the cheque for the sale proceeds to the executor/administrator.

Transfer:

Share Data maintains a library of standard documents and wordings for signature. We provide you the appropriate transfer form for signature and can inform you of all the requirements for share transfers.

We then submit the transfer to the registrars and return the share certificates in the new name(s) to the executor/administrator for distribution to the beneficiaries.

TIPS:

• Executors/administrators are responsible for the payment of all debts and taxes from the estate.
  Ensure that these obligations are discharged before dealing with payment of any bequest.
• Keep a record of what each beneficiary receives and the date of transfer.
• Ask the beneficiary to sign a document listing the assets he/she has received.
