This process may follow other rules in foreign countries. Please see our Resealing Grants of Probate service.

After submitting the valuation of assets to the Revenue and paying any IHT due, as an executor/administrator you will be able to apply for Grant of Probate. This allows you to administer the deceased’s estate.

Once you are able to provide the Grant of Probate, Share Data will check the validity of the certificates with the registrars and make sure the certificates held represent the whole of each shareholding.

At this stage we also submit the Grant of Probate to the registrars so that they can allow transactions on the account.

We collect all valid certificates and list the missing or invalid ones. If a document of title has been lost a duplicate is generally required. In that case, we arrange letters of indemnity or surety bonds, if required, along with all other documents such as affidavits and declarations of loss.

Tips:

  • Ask for several certified copies of the Grant of Probate
  • Keep a copy of each share certificate
  • Send documents via Registered post
